PRACE Summer of HPC 2019
The Hartree Centre is offering two summer work placement projects to late-stage undergraduates or masters students.
We’re proud to be supporting the PRACE Summer of HPC 2019 by offering two projects for late-stage undergraduates and masters students. Applications close on 25 February 2019.
Summer of HPC is a PRACE programme that offers summer placements at HPC centres across Europe. Participants will spend two months working on projects related to PRACE technical or industrial work to produce a visualisation or video. The summer placement programme will run from 1 July 2019 to 31 August 2019.
Projects
Scaling the Dissipative Particle Dynamic (DPD) code, DL MESO, on large multi-GPU architectures
The successful participant will learn to benchmark, profile and modify multi-GPUs code mainly written in Fortran and CUDA languages following typical domain decomposition implemented using MPI libraries. They will also gain a basic understanding of the DPD methodology and its impact on mesoscale simulations. The participant will also gain a familiarity with proper software development procedure using Software for Version Control, IDE and tools for Parallel Profiling on GPUs.
The final product will be an internal report, convertible to a conference or journal paper, with benchmark and comparison of the improved version of the DL_MESO multi-GPUs.
Hybrid Monte Carlo/Deep Learning Methods for Matrix Computation on Advanced Architectures
The successful participant will learn to design parallel hybrid Monte Carlo methods and use advanced Deep Learning techniques. They will learn how to implement these methods on computing architectures with latest GPU accelerators as well as understanding how to design and develop mixed MPI/CUDA and/or MPI/OpenMP code.
The final product will be a parallel application that can be executed on hybrid architectures with GPU accelerators or a multicore one. Ideally, we would like to publish the results in a paper on a conference or a workshop.
Project Mentors: Vassil Alexandrov, Jony Castagna
Site Co-ordinator: Luke Mason
Applications are welcome from all disciplines. Some coding knowledge is a prerequisite, but we’re mainly looking for a desire to learn and share knowledge within the HPC community.
