Cognitive project with Alder Hey wins award for innovation

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has been awarded “Most Innovative Collaboration” at the North West Coast Research and Innovation Awards 2017 for the cognitive hospital project it is currently working on in collaboration with the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Hartree Centre.​​

The collaboration between the Hartree Centre and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital aims to revolutionise personalised medicine, putting the patient at the centre of their care in a way that has never before been possible. This is made possible by advances in cognitive computing and data analytics. The project is being built on IBM Watson – the world’s first commercially available cognitive computing platform.​ 

The cognitive project is part of a larger effort by the hospital, already renowned for its attention to detail with the patient experience,​ to take advantage of various innovative digital technologies, such as the development of an app funded by Shop Direct, which will also contribute to providing a more personal experience for the families who use the hospital’s services.
