HPC Training in Europe: Current Landscape and Future Needs
The Birds of a Feather (BoF) session at ISC 25 will explore the landscape of European training initiatives in the field of High-Performance Computing (HPC). With a growing number of training programs supported by diverse projects, the HPC community faces challenges in understanding the scope, structure, and coordination of these efforts. This BoF aims to create a comprehensive map of training initiatives, identify gaps, and discuss solutions to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and knowledge transfer. The session will focus on three main objectives:
- presenting an overview of existing training initiatives and their alignment with community needs
- fostering discussion on best practices and coordination both within and beyond Europe
- engaging the audience through interactive formats to gather insights and priorities.
The ultimate goal is to provide clarity on how HPC training projects are structured, uncover opportunities for improved collaboration, and propose actionable steps to streamline efforts across Europe. The interactive format of the BoF will include tools such as surveys and guided discussions to ensure active participation. Insights from this session will benefit stakeholders, including project organizers, training providers, and end-users, by offering a clearer picture of the training ecosystem and how it can evolve to meet the growing demand for skilled HPC professionals. Through this session, we aim to lay the groundwork for a more coordinated and impactful approach to HPC training in Europe and pave the way for a common HPC training portfolio for Europe. The Birds of a Feather will be chaired by Rachel Williamson, STFC Hartree Centre.
