UK Government puts spotlight on emerging digital technologies

The STFC Hartree Centre recently featured in the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology’s National Quantum Strategy and Future of Compute Review, where a wealth of our success stories and case studies demonstrate the potential of emerging digital technologies to enhance productivity and innovation in UK industry.

In its first 50 days, the newly formed government department has highlighted the importance of emerging digital technologies, such as exascale and quantum computing, and backed them with a significant funding commitment of £3.5 billion to support the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s plans to make the UK a science and technology superpower. This includes:

  • A £2.5bn ten-year investment in quantum technologies to strengthen the UK’s position as a worldwide leader
  • Exascale funding will significantly uplift the UK’s computing capacity to benefit everyone in society and the economy.

The government also accepted all 9 of Sir Patrick Vallance’s recommendations in the Pro-innovation Regulation of Emerging Digital Technologies

As part of the Exascale and Quantum Computing research communities in the UK, we’re thrilled to be working collaboratively to ensure the UK has the skills and infrastructure to take a global lead in game-changing digital technologies.
