The Hartree Centre has taken up residence at the University of Liverpool’s Digital Innovation Facility, creating the first Hartree Centre satellite office based outside of an existing Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) campus.

The new location will provide flexible hot-desking offices and co-working spaces for the Hartree Centre team, enhancing their ability to meet and collaborate with new audiences and existing partners – including the University of Liverpool, local businesses and public sector organisations.

Alison Kennedy, Director of the STFC Hartree Centre, said:

“Embracing hybrid working provides exciting opportunities for us all to work more flexibly. Our new Liverpool office will give us access to new spaces to work from and new faces to collaborate with. We’re looking forward to inviting Hartree Centre collaborators – existing and prospective – to work with us remotely or at any of our STFC sites: Daresbury, Oxfordshire or Edinburgh – and now Liverpool city centre! Many thanks to the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Digital Engineering and Autonomous Systems (IDEAS) for welcoming us into the Digital Innovation Facility.”

Dr Andrew Levers, Executive Director for the Institute for Digital Engineering and Autonomous Systems (IDEAS) at the University of Liverpool added:

“We are thrilled to welcome the STFC Hartree Centre to the Digital Innovation Facility, here at the heart of the University of Liverpool campus. We are excited to expand on our growing relationship in Liverpool that will enable us to closely work together whilst effectively collaborating and supporting businesses within the new state-of-the-art facilities.”

The Hartree Centre hopes to adopt further regional locations in the future to enhance its presence across the UK, embracing the current appetite for more dynamic ways of working and enabling more flexible hybrid collaborations.

The University of Liverpool’s Digital Innovation Facility proved to be the ideal first location, thanks to the Hartree Centre’s longstanding partnership with the University of Liverpool’s Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC), which is also based across the Digital Innovation Facility and Hartree Centre.

The Hartree Centre building is based alongside STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory in the Liverpool City Region, but also has staff based at STFC’s UK Astronomy Technology Centre in Edinburgh and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire.
