What is LCR 4.0?

LCR 4.0 (link opens in a new window) is putting the Liverpool City Region at the heart of a manufacturing evolution. Driven by the rise of Industry 4.0 or the fourth industrial revolution, LCR 4.0 aims to help small and medium sized companies to innovate, digitise and improve their processes through fully subsidised technical and business support provided by six local partner organisations.

Industry 4.0 technology areas include:

  • Big data
  • Internet of Things
  • Simulation
  • Cloud computing
  • Autonomous Systems
  • Systems integration
  • Augmented reality
  • Additive manufacturing
  • Cyber security

Where does the Hartree Centre fit in?

We’re one of the partner organisations that will deliver access to technologies, support and expertise to enable SMEs to streamline their processes, innovate and increase productivity.

We specialise in high performance computing, big data analytics and cognitive technologies, so will be looking at how SMEs taking part in the LCR 4.0 programme can apply these technologies to solve manufacturing and supply chain challenges.

Examples where we can help

We’ve come up with some quick examples of the types of projects we can help you to achieve through minimal effort, but resulting in maximum impact for your business:

  • Data analysis using CRISP-DM and predictive analytics
Do you have lots of data – internal, external, historic or real time – but don’t know what you could do with it? We can help you find out if you have the right data to solve a particular challenge and use it to help your business thrive!
  • Rapid prototyping using CFD & SPH
    • Skip the meshing stage of traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and enable faster GPU-enabled completion through smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH).
  • Explore the potential of IBM Watson
Take time with our experts to figure out how your SME could be using the IBM Watson platform to develop better products and services and put them into practice.
  • Upgrade codes to run on high performance or data centric systems
We can help you make existing codes scalable, introduce parallelism or batch jobs so you can run them on high performance computing platforms and take your design to the next level.
  • Explore hardware acceleration
Discover how you could be using GPUs, Intel® Xeon Phi™ or other accelerated platforms to your advantage.

... And much more. This is not an exhaustive list, so if you have challenges that you aren’t sure how to solve, don’t hesitate to contact us and we can help you figure out if LCR 4.0 is the right fit for your business!

Am I eligible?

To benefit from LCR 4.0 you need to be part of an SME engaged in manufacturing or the supply chain in some way – be it big science, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, low carbon/renewable technologies, digital and creative industries or otherwise – and based within (or relocating to) the Liverpool City Region: Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral, Halton or Knowsley.
