The pioneering programme, in which the STFC Hartree Centre is one of five technology partners, was recently praised as a ‘best practice initiative’ in the Government’s Made Smarter Review. The ambition was to help 300 regional SMEs explore the challenges and opportunities of Industry 4.0 (4IR) within three years, increasing productivity and de-risking innovation.
By the end of 2017, nearly 100 businesses had been supported by the project which aims to open up the opportunities that Industry 4.0 technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality, Internet of Things and cloud computing, can have on small business processes and productivity.
