With over 70 activities and counting,
there is something for everyone at the Daresbury Laboratory Open Day - and whether you are 5 or 105 there will be something for
all ages with our Hartree Centre and Scientific Computing teams. From
building and programming Lego Mindstorm robots, to understanding the basics of
computer electronics and software with our mini Arduinos, you will go away
knowing more about programming than when you arrived.
Younger ones will love the BeeBots, our fun bumble bee
robots that they’ll be able to programme to follow a map. And for those who
remember the days before computers (what did we do without them?), the History
of Computing display will be a fascinating journey through the last 50 years of
computers, before being brought right up to the cutting edge of supercomputing
with a very rare tour of our ‘Machine Room’, home to one of the most powerful
supercomputers in the UK dedicated to working with industry.
