On 25 October 2016, representatives from SMEs, universities and research organisations gathered in Manchester to hear from a panel of industry leaders about how to explore the power of big data and make it work for their businesses.
The Hartree Centre proudly sponsored the day as part of a series of events to help highlight how big data analytics can support innovation and develop processes which will benefit them in the future.
Delegates benefitted from presentations on how big data can open up opportunities for businesses to grow and streamline their processes. Several speakers spoke passionately about how incorporating data analytics in to their businesses has helped them to improve health and social care in their communities.
Michael Gleaves, Deputy Director of the Hartree Centre joined speakers from IBM, NHS Digital, PI Ltd and Amazon Web Services to present three case of our own success stories, highlighting how the Hartree Centre works with partners to harness the power of big data. Michael focused in on our pioneering work with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, in particular using cognitive technologies to help provide clinicians with new insights and improve patient experience. Michael finished by looking to the future with our next generation of high performance computers using energy efficient platforms.
Presentations were followed by a panel discussion in which speakers were challenged to think about the future of big data, collaboration with business partners and discussed the steps they are taking to cultivate the next generation of data scientists.
